SASSA SRD Appeal

SRD appeal and appeal status help

The same official appeal portal is used to lodge an appeal and check appeal status. You need your South African ID number and the cellphone number registered on your SRD application.

SASSA SRD Appeal Timeframe

The official appeal information states that an appeal may be lodged within 30 days, but not exceeding 90 days, after the rejected decision. The Independent Tribunal may inform you of the appeal outcome electronically within 60 to 90 days from lodging the appeal.

30 to 90 Days

Submit the appeal inside the allowed appeal window after the declined decision.

60 to 90 Days

The appeal outcome may take this long after the appeal is lodged.

Each Month Separate

Each declined SRD month must be appealed separately if you disagree.

Electronic Outcome

The appeal outcome is sent electronically, so your contact details must be correct.

What to Check Before Appealing

Before appealing, check your SRD R370 status again and confirm the exact month, outcome, and decline reason.

Declined month Make sure the month you want to appeal is actually declined.
Decline reason Read the reason shown under that month before submitting the appeal.
Registered phone number You need access to the SRD application phone number to receive the OTP.
Correct contact details Make sure your contact information is correct before lodging the appeal.

Do You Appeal Every Declined Month Separately?

Yes. SRD is assessed monthly. If more than one month is declined and you disagree with those decisions, each declined month must be selected and appealed separately.

Do not assume one appeal covers all months. The appeal decision applies to the specific month linked to that appeal.

What Happens After You Submit an Appeal?

After the appeal is submitted, the declined month is reviewed. The result may stay declined, change to approved, or remain under review until the appeal outcome is finalised.

  1. Keep note of the month you appealed.
  2. Wait for the 60 to 90 day appeal outcome period.
  3. Check the appeal result on the official appeal portal.
  4. If the appeal succeeds, check whether the month changes to approved.
  5. If the appeal is unsuccessful, the month may remain declined.

What If Your SRD Appeal Is Successful?

If the appeal is successful, the Independent Tribunal can direct SASSA to initiate payment processing for that appealed month. Make sure your contact and payment details are correct so the successful appeal can be handled properly.

What If Your SRD Appeal Is Unsuccessful?

If the appeal is unsuccessful, the declined decision for that month may remain in place. The official appeal information says the Independent Tribunal decision is final internally. If an applicant is not satisfied with that decision, they may approach the High Court for judicial review within 180 days under the Promotion of Administrative Justice Act, 2000.

What Not to Do When Appealing

  • Do not pay anyone to approve or speed up an SRD appeal.
  • Do not share OTPs, bank PINs, card numbers, or app passwords.
  • Do not appeal a pending SRD month.
  • Do not appeal an approved SRD month.
  • Do not use appeal links sent by strangers in comments or messages.
