SRD referred status help
If your SRD status check result shows referred, that SRD month has not been finalised yet because the system needs extra checks before it can move to approved, declined, or another final outcome.
Referred is different from pending, approved, and declined. It usually means the month needs extra identity, fraud-prevention, e-KYC, or profile checks before payment can continue.
What Does Referred SRD Status Mean?
Referred SRD status means your SRD R370 result has been flagged for extra checks. It does not automatically mean you are declined, and it does not always mean you did anything wrong.
While a month is referred, payment for that month can stay delayed until the referred issue is cleared and the SRD result updates.
How to Fix Referred SRD Status
- Go to srd.sassa.gov.za/sc19/ekyc/referredstatus.
- Enter your 13-digit South African ID number.
- Enter the cellphone number used on your SRD application.
- Click send pin.
- Enter the OTP PIN sent to your registered SRD phone number.
- Follow the referred-status e-KYC instructions shown on the official portal.
- Complete biometric or identity verification if the system asks for it.
- Check your SRD status again later to see if the month has updated.
Referred vs Pending, Approved and Declined
Referred is a status result, but it needs a different action from the other SRD results.
Pending
The monthly SRD checks are still being processed.
Approved
You qualified for that SRD month. A pay date may appear when payment is ready.
Declined
You did not qualify for that month. Check the decline reason before appealing.
Referred
The month needs extra checks before the result can be finalised.
Why Your SRD Status May Be Referred
Referred status can happen when the official system cannot automatically confirm something about the SRD application, applicant profile, phone number, banking details, or identity information.
Does Referred SRD Status Stop Payment?
A referred month can delay payment because the month has not been finalised yet. The result may need to update before payment can continue.
Do not treat referred as approved. First clear the referred issue, then check whether the month changes to approved, declined, pending, or another result.
You Need Access to Your SRD Phone Number
The referred-status e-KYC process can send an OTP PIN or SMS verification link to the cellphone number linked to your SRD application. If you no longer have access to that number, use the change SRD phone number guide first.
If Referred Status Needs Biometric Verification
SASSA may ask for biometric identity verification when clearing referred status. This can involve a verification link or face-check step.
- Use the phone number linked to your SRD application.
- Open only the official SMS verification link if one is sent.
- Make sure your camera works and your face is clearly visible.
- Complete the face or identity verification steps shown by the official system.
- Check the referred-status page or your SRD result again later.
If Referred Is Linked to Identity Verification
If the referred result is linked to ID details, OTP problems, e-KYC, reverification, or biometric checks, use the SASSA identity verification guide for the broader verification steps.
What Happens After Referred Status Is Cleared?
After completing referred-status verification, the official system may need time to update. Check your SRD result again later using the same ID number and SRD application phone number.
Can Change to Approved
If the checks are cleared and you qualify, the month may later show approved.
Can Change to Declined
If you do not qualify after checks, the month may later show declined with a reason.
Can Stay Pending
The month may still need processing even after verification is completed.
Check Again Later
The official system may take time to update after verification.
If Referred Blocks Banking or Phone Updates
If referred status appears while updating payment details, complete referred verification first, then return to the update banking details guide.
If referred status appears while changing your cellphone number, complete the verification process first, then continue with the phone number update.
Common Referred SRD Status Problems
Should You Change Details While SRD Is Referred?
Do not change banking details or phone number only because the month says referred. First complete the referred-status verification. Change details only if the phone number, banking details, or profile information is actually wrong or unusable.
What Not to Do With Referred SRD Status
- Do not pay anyone to clear referred status.
- Do not share OTPs, SMS links, bank PINs, app passwords, or card details.
- Do not use e-KYC links from strangers in WhatsApp groups or social media comments.
- Do not assume referred means approved.
- Do not appeal before checking whether the issue is actually referred verification.
